The Division of Nephrology ("Toronto Kidney Centre") is part of the University Health Network, and is comprised of a group of highly skilled and knowledgeable clinicians, scientists, teachers, and innovators in comprehensive kidney care, dialysis, renal disease, and research.
We are an accomplished community of academic nephrologists, with members across leading hospitals including University Health Network (Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital), Unity Health Toronto (St. Michael’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Centre) and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and has one of the largest nephrology training programs in core nephrology with fellowships in glomerulonephritis, heritable kidney disease, home dialysis, palliative care, onconephrology and more.
We are training the next generation of kidney specialists.
We have fellowship training opportunities in the following areas: General Nephrology, Geriatric Nephrology and Palliative Renal Medicine, Glomerular Disease, Hereditary Kidney Disease, Kidney and Kidney-Pancreas Transplantation, and Onconephrology.
Mission
We are proud to be world experts and leaders in kidney related research and clinical care, including basic scientists, clinical investigators, teachers, and quality improvement specialists, with expertise in but not limited to home hemodialysis, home peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis and vascular access, chronic kidney disease, renal physiology, diabetes and diabetic kidney disease, glomerular diseases, hereditary kidney diseases, geriatric nephrology, and onconephrology.
The philosophy of care at UHN is guided by care that empowers patients living with kidney disease to live well at home and encourages chronic disease self-management, and home/self-care modalities of dialysis (PD, HD, and nocturnal HD).
